XPO

What is XPO?

XPO is an intuitive Web-based workflow solution for creating, managing, distributing, and archiving physician orders. It is time saving in that orders cannot be submitted to facilities unless required information is complete. It is efficient in that physicians, departmentCustomer Service names, procedures and descriptions are accessed from the HIM system, keeping data synchronized. Next, submitted orders arrive at the scheduler’s desktop via the internet. At the desktop, a Ticker program, much like email notification, alerts the scheduler there are orders to process. After an order is scheduled in the HIM system, the order is automatically available to the appropriate testing department for viewing or printing.

With manual paper-based systems, orders can be lost or misfiled; however, XPO orders cannot be lost or misfiled. With any of the many search fields, orders can be viewed or printed based on the user’s security level. The many benefits of using XPO include immediate access to an order, searchable index fields (Unit ID, Name, SS), no lost order, accurate orders, ease of use, archived orders, and happy, satisfied clinics.

In today’s competitive marketplace, XPO provides your hospital the ability to improve the scheduling process for your clinics. Everyone involved benefits from improved customer service: clinic, hospital, and most importantly, the patient.Doctors looking at film

XPO Case Study

HCA Midwest Health System is part of the larger HCA family, one of the nation’s leading providers of healthcare services. Based in Nashville, Tennessee, the HCA family includes HCA Midwest in addition to approximately 180 hospitals and 90 outpatient surgery centers in 23 states, England and Switzerland. The Midwest Division recognized that they were having issues with physician orders. They asked if we could improve productivity with physician orders for their scheduling department. Studies revealed that 30 percent of the orders were incomplete or lost, which increased the amount of time staff spent on the CT Scanphone correcting the problem with the clinics. Furthermore, faxed orders were commonly misfiled or missing patient information.

Further analysis revealed that these problems were costing the hospital lost revenue and had a negative impact within the community. In some circumstances, patients were waiting hours for lost orders to be found and often were required to reschedule their procedure.

The hospital recognized the frustration the clinics and patients were experiencing. And so, with the assistance of the HCA’s scheduling manager and Delta Systems, XPO was developed.

XPO is a simple to use Web-based workflow for physician orders. The system has drop down menu selections for the following: facilities, physicians, procedures, descriptions, diagnosis, Lab & HP test, CPT, and required fields for patient information. The end result is that it is easy to use, has generated compliance, and has significantly increased productivity for clinics and hospital staff. Scheduled orders are now immediately available to Admitting when the patient checks in as well as to the testing departments. Click here to access our live demo.
